Local Campaigning - Tax Credits & Electoral Registration

As you are all no doubt aware, the Tories were recently defeated in the House of Lords in their attempt to cut Tax Credits that would see 63% of families in Great Yarmouth lose up to £1,300 from their annual income. The Chancellor has decided that, whilst a rethink is necessary, he will still press ahead with Tax Credit cuts in a move fully supported by the Prime Minister, who promised not to cut Tax Credits ahead of the General Election earlier this year. We don't think it is right or fair that people on a low income should see their income squeezed even further by an out of touch Chancellor or by a broken promise Prime Minister.

You may not be aware however, of the switch to IER (Individual Elector Registration) which is being rushed through by the Tories, against the advice of the independent Electoral Commission and ahead of their own timetable when this was introduced in the last parliament. The reason for this is clear, people will unknowingly drop off of the Electoral Roll before it is frozen temporarily on 1st December to allow for Constituency Boundary changes to be made in April next year. This will allow the Tories to redraw the constituency as they see fit ahead of the next General Election.

Come along and join us in Yarmouth North as we spread the message about both Tax Credit cuts & IER whilst also giving residents a chance to meet their candidate for the upcoming Local Elections.
